Introduction:
Akari is from Japan and has been living in Shanghai for almost a year. As a mother living abroad, she actively embraces a new cultural environment while persistently studying Mandarin. Currently, she is in an HSK4 group class. Through her language learning journey, she has discovered effective methods and gained both friendship and personal growth. In this interview, let’s hear about her experiences and genuine feelings about learning Chinese.
访谈内容：
M：你好！请先做一下自我介绍吧。
M：Hello!Could you please introduce yourself?
Akari：我是Akari，来自日本，来上海大约一年了。我是在半年前加入这所学校的。现在我在HSK4的团体班上课。我有一个年纪还很小的女儿，所以我一直在找每周上两到三次、上午进行的课程。
Akari：I’m Akari. I’m from Japan and have been in Shanghai about a year. At this school I joined a half year ago. I’m in HSK4 group class now. I have a daughter she is still small so I was looking for twice or three times in the week morning class.
M：你为什么来中国？
M：Why did you come to China?
Akari：因为我丈夫的工作，我原本可以选择留在自己的国家，但我想和家人一起感受新的文化和环境。我觉得这对我女儿来说也会是一次很好的经历。
Akari：Because of my husband business. I could choose to stay in my country but I wanted to feel new culture and environment with my family. I thought it will going to be a good experience for my daughter too.
M：你认为外国人学习普通话有用吗？为什么？你为什么想学习普通话？
M： Do you think it is useful for foreigners to learn Mandarin? Why? And why you’d like to learn Mandarin?
Akari：是的，我觉得这对所有语言都适用。如果你能说当地的语言，就更容易与当地人熟悉起来。此外，学习常用的词汇和短语，尤其是其中独特的语感，也有助于你了解这个国家人民的性格和文化。我学习中文，是因为我想和中国人交流，也希望能够真正感受到自己生活在中国。Akari：Yes, I can say for all languages. If you can speak language where you live, it is easy to be familiar with local people. Also, learning commonly used phrases and words with unique nuances can also help you understand the personality and culture of the people of that country. I learn Mandarin because I want to talk with Chinese people and want to feel I live in China.
M：作为一个好学生，你是怎么学习普通话的？能举个例子吗？你愿意分享一下你的学习技巧吗？（比如你如何在学习中文时鼓励自己？如何保持学习中文的兴趣？）
M：As a good student, how do you learn Mandarin?could you give an example？Would you like to share your tips?(like How you encourage yourself when you learn Chinese? How do you keep interest to learn Chinese?）
Akari：首先是预习和复习。接下来是大声反复朗读你学过的内容，直到你能流利地说出这些句子。如果你能录下自己的朗读会更有效。这会让你更紧张，也会暴露出你还不熟悉的表达方式，从而让你有更多练习的机会。最后，做练习册并复习整套内容。
保持学习动力的方法是多和擅长中文的朋友在一起。当我只能听懂他们说的一小部分，或者无法表达自己想说的话时，这种情况会让我更想努力学习。
Akari：First, preview and review. Next is read out loud several times what you have learned until you can speak the sentences fluently. It is more effective if you record yourself too. This makes you more nervous, and you will make mistakes with phrases that are not yet familiar to you, so you can practice more. Finally, try workbook and review the whole thing.
The way to stay motivated is to spend time with friends who are good at Mandarin. When I can only understand a little bit what they are talking or when I can't say what I want to say, this situation makes me want to study more.
M：你想谈谈你的老师吗？你喜欢他/她吗？老师的哪些行为会激励你学习普通话？
M：Would you like to talk something about your teacher, do you like him/her? And What kinds of teacher’s behavior will encourage you to learn Mandarin?
Akari：我的老师Ann,真的很适合我。我特别不擅长说中文，所以一直在寻找一个可以练习口语的环境。Ann老师会利用日常生活的话题安排对话时间，教我们一些实用的词汇和短语。此外，在使用课本时，她会为新词提供各种例句，并让我们用这些新词造句。不只是讲解内容，她还鼓励学生自己运用这些词语并开口说，这对我非常有帮助。
Akari：My teacher Ann really suits me. I am particularly not good at speaking, so I was looking for an environment where I could practice speaking. Ann makes time for conversation using daily life topics, so she teaches useful phrases and words. In addition, in the textbook, she provides various example sentences for new words, and she let us make sentences with new words. It is very helpful not only to teach the content, but also students use phrases and words themselves and speak.
M：你很少请假，是什么让你坚持上课的？我们有很多在线资源，你用过吗？你觉得这些资源怎么样？
M：You seldom ask for leave, what encourage you are keeping doing classes ? and we have many online resources, have you used it, and how do you feel about it?
Akari：我有一位很棒的同学和一位很好的老师。我的同学也非常有学习中文的动力。而且我的老师总是很冷静，并且会给我们正确的学习建议。
我在复习时经常使用在线学习资料。它很实用，因为我可以在任何地方使用。而且听力部分还有文本，这对我自学来说非常有帮助。
Akari：I have a nice classmate and a teacher. My classmate also has good motivation for learning Mandarin. Also my teacher is always calm and she gives us right advice for learning Mandarin.
I always use online materials when I review myself. It is useful because I can use everywhere. Also it has transcripts for listening parts. That’s really useful for me to study by myself.
M：我们每个月通常会举办一次工作坊，你觉得怎么样？你有什么建议吗？或者你对哪些主题感兴趣？
M：We are doing workshop normally once a month, how do you feel about it, and do you have any suggestion, or do you have any subject you are interested?
Akari：我对参加工作坊很感兴趣。我想了解中国的美食。了解各个地区的美食文化会很有意思。
Akari：I’m interested in joining the workshop. I want to know about Chinese cuisine. It's interesting to know about cuisine from various regions.
M：在你的普通话学习过程中，有没有有趣的事情或日常生活中遇到的语言问题（尽量详细）？
M：Do you have any interesting thing during your Mandarin study or the problems （details should be good）you meet in your daily life as the language to share to us.
Akari：随着我越来越习惯听和说中文，我的性格也逐渐变得更加开朗。有时候用不同于以往的沟通方式反而能更顺利地交流，这让我觉得很有趣。
Akari：As I get used to listening to and speaking Chinese, my personality is gradually becoming more open. It's fun because sometimes I can communicate better by speaking in a different personality than usual.
M：最后，请说一句你最喜欢的中文句子，为什么？
M：Finally, please say a your favourite Chinese sentence, and why.
Akari: 我最喜欢的一句话是“有推荐吗？”。刚来上海的时候，我很想尝试新鲜的事物，所以经常用这句话。现在当我需要了解或寻找一些信息时，我也还是会用它。
Akari：My favorite sentence is”有推荐吗？”. When I first came to Shanghai, I used it a lot because I wanted to try new things, and I still use it when I need to research things.
