Dragon Heads-raising Day — national haircut day

Dragon Heads-raising Day (February 2nd of the lunar calendar) is a traditional Chinese folk festival. In Chinese farming culture, "dragon heads-raising" indicates that the sun is rising, the rate of rain is increasing, and everything is full of vitality. A lot of folk activities, related to this day, are carried out around the beautiful belief of the dragon god.

1. The customs

Relative customs vary in different regions. And the most wide-spreading activities are dragon dance and “dragon shaving".

“Dragon shaving” refers to cutting hair. On the same day as the dragon raises its head, children’s haircuts would help them grow up healthily and become excellent in the future. And adults cut their hair and welcome the new year in the hope of bringing good luck.
