引言
Introduction
在AI可以即时翻译一切的时代,我们为什么还要学习另一种语言?
In an age where AI can translate almost anything in real time, why do we still bother learning another language?
这个问题有很多答案。但当我们见到 Sonia —— 一位来自意大利、在上海生活的母亲 —— 我们发现,答案也许很简单:因为语言不只是工具。它是你与水果摊主讨价还价时的那份亲切,是你在公园里和老人打羽毛球时的笑声,是你真正“在这里”的感觉。
There are many answers. But when we met Sonia — an Italian mother living in Shanghai — we were reminded of a simpler one: because language is never just a tool. It's the warmth you feel when bargaining with your local fruit vendor. It's the laughter you share playing badminton with elderly neighbors in the park. It's the quiet sense of truly being here.
Sonia 不是语言天才。她会犯错,会被误解,会说颠倒的句子。但她身上有一种东西 —— 一种坚持,一种对生活的热爱,让她的中文学习之路格外动人。
Sonia is no language prodigy. She makes mistakes, gets misunderstood, and occasionally mixes up her tones. But she has something else — a quiet persistence, a genuine joy in connecting with people — that makes her Chinese learning journey truly special.
自我介绍
Self Introduction
我的名字叫Sonia,我是意大利人。我第一次来上海是2016年,和丈夫、两个孩子一起。不是因为旅行,而是因为工作。
My name is Sonia. I'm Italian. I first came to Shanghai in 2016, not as a tourist but with my husband and two children for work.
“从那一刻起,我就感受到一种奇妙的东西 —— 一种与这片土地的内在连接,”她说。
"From the very first moment, I felt something wonderful — an inner connection with this extraordinary land," she says.
为什么来到中国
Why China?
Sonia 一直梦想着深入了解东方,了解这个古老民族的历史、传统和文化。但工作、家庭、责任……生活总有办法把梦想推到一边。
Sonia had always dreamed of deepening her knowledge of the East — its history, traditions, and ancient culture. But work, family, responsibilities — life has a way of pushing dreams aside.
当她回到意大利继续工作时,她才真正意识到:这种连接是真实的。她想回来。她想住在这里。
When she returned to Italy, she realized how real that connection was. She wanted to come back. She wanted to live here.
现在,她回来了。
Now, she has.
学中文有必要吗?
Is It Useful to Learn Chinese?
很多人问Sonia:现在翻译软件这么好用,外国人还有必要学中文吗?
Many people ask Sonia: with translation apps so powerful today, is it still useful for foreigners to learn Chinese?
她的回答很直接:“当然有用。因为语言不只是沟通,更是理解。”
Her answer is direct: "Of course it is. Because language is more than communication — it's understanding."
她承认中文不容易。发音、声调、语法……每一项都可以让人头疼。但正因为不容易,学习的过程才更有意义。
She admits Chinese is not easy. Pronunciation, tones, grammar — each can be a headache. But precisely because it's difficult, the process of learning feels more meaningful.
“我想真正融入这里。我想和朋友流利地聊天,真正感觉自己是这个国家的一部分。”她说,“路还很长,但我知道,我已经在路上了。”
"I want to fully integrate. I want to speak fluently with friends and truly feel like part of this country," she says. "The road is still long. But I know I'm already on it."
学习技巧
Learning Hacks
Sonia 的中文学习从不局限于课堂。
For Sonia, learning Chinese never stops when class ends.
“你必须在日常生活中挑战自己,”她说。“从小事开始。”
"You have to challenge yourself in everyday life," she says. "Start with small things."
比如去常去的水果摊,用中文买你喜欢的水果。比如和健身房的朋友聊天。比如在公园里,和那些晨练的老人一起打羽毛球、跳舞。
Like going to your trusted fruit vendor and buying what you like — in Chinese. Like chatting with friends at the gym. Like playing badminton and dancing with elderly people in the park.
“我的孩子也一起玩。我们度过了很多美好的时光。”
"My kids join too. We have a wonderful time together."
她相信,那些老人对她的善意和热情,是真正的快乐和友谊。
She believes the affection and kindness these elderly neighbors show them are examples of true joy and friendship.
当然,她经常犯错。发音不准,动词用错,别人听不懂。
Of course, she makes mistakes. Wrong tones. Wrong verbs. People don't understand.
“但每一次,他们都会鼓励我继续——不要觉得丢脸。”
"But every time, they encourage me to keep going — not to be ashamed."
关于老师
About the Teacher
Sonia从去年11月开始在Mandarin Inn上课,一对一课程。她遇到了她的老师Yun。
Sonia started private lessons at Mandarin Inn last November. That's when she met her teacher, Yun.
“我立刻感到放松,”她说。“我们之间建立了一种非常积极的连接。”
"I immediately felt at ease," she says. "We developed a very positive connection."
她认为,好的中文老师需要两样东西:足够的耐心,以及让课堂“活”起来的能力。
She believes a good Chinese teacher needs two things: patience, and the ability to make lessons feel "alive."
“中文需要不断练习。一个好老师会让你愿意开口,不怕犯错。”她说,“在Yun身上,我找到了我一直在寻找的东西。”
"Learning Mandarin requires constant practice. A good teacher makes you want to speak — without fear of making mistakes," she says. "With Yun, I found what I was looking for."
学习环境与挑战
Learning in China
在Mandarin Inn,Sonia很少请假。问她是什么让她坚持每周都来上课。她想了想,说:“因为我知道这是我想要的。”
Sonia rarely asks for leave from her classes. When asked what keeps her coming back week after week, she pauses, then says: "Because I know this is what I want."
她也使用了学校提供的线上资源,觉得很有帮助。
She's also used Mandarin Inn's online resources and found them helpful.
Sonia把这种态度也传给了她的孩子。“我们经常试着和她们的朋友说中文,”她说。“句子很简单,但每一点都有帮助。”
Sonia passes this attitude on to her children. "We often try to speak Chinese with their friends," she says. "Simple sentences. But every little bit helps."
她希望孩子们也能理解:语言不是完美的表演,而是一种连接的尝试。犯错没关系。重要的是你愿意开口。
She wants her children to understand that language is not a perfect performance — it's an attempt to connect. Making mistakes is fine. What matters is being willing to speak.
但真正让她坚持下去的,也许是那种“在路上”的感觉。每天进步一点点,每天多说一句中文。
But perhaps what truly keeps her going is that quiet sense of progress — being on the road. A little better every day. One more sentence spoken.
关于工作坊
Workshops
至于每月一次的工作坊活动,她觉得很有趣,也很期待未来更多主题。
As for the monthly workshops, she enjoys them and looks forward to more topics in the future.
最喜欢的一句话
Favourite Chinese Sentence
她和老师Yun常常互相鼓励的一句话是:
A phrase she and her teacher Yun often say to each other:
You can do it! 加油!
You can do it! Jiāyóu!
还有一句她最喜欢的:
坚持就是胜利。
Perseverance leads to victory.
结语
Closing
学习一门语言,从来都不只是学习词汇和语法。
Learning a language has never been just about vocabulary and grammar.
它是学习如何在一个新的世界里生活。学习如何犯错然后笑一笑。学习如何从水果摊主、公园里的老人、健身房的朋友那里,获得一点点温暖。
It's about learning how to live in a new world. How to make mistakes and laugh about them. How to find small moments of warmth — from a fruit vendor, an elderly neighbor in the park, a friend at the gym.
Sonia 还在路上。她的中文还会继续进步——也会继续犯错。
Sonia is still on the road. Her Chinese will keep improving — and she'll keep making mistakes.
但她已经找到了最重要的东西:一种愿意坚持下去的勇气,和一种连接世界的喜悦。(完)
But she's already found what matters most: the courage to persevere, and the joy of connecting with the world around her. (End)
